For equipment, each knight have their own set of Makai Armor and may carry a Madougu (as an advisor and Horror detector). When facing a difficult Horror, the knight can bring out his weapon (magically crafted soul metal blade) and form a halo that opens a portal that instantly opens near the knight to don a wolf-motif armor for battle. Due to the dangerous properties of the armor itself, no Makai Knight can stay in their armored form for more than 99.9 seconds. If this time limit is surpassed, the armor starts to burn its wearer. The mystical properties of soul metal limits the level of exposure a trained handler can wield. Too much contact with soul metal (even for trained users) can be fatal, as soul metal eats away human flesh on contact and is tougher than any other alloy due to its unique properties.

The knight's weapons are also made of soul metal; it has minimal side effects as the blade of the weapon is wrapped in other materials that would limit direct contact with it. Makai Knights also possess a Madō Lighter that emits Madō Flame to help identify Horrors. They can use the same flames to encompass their armored bodies and weapons to increase damage potential, it's a technique called Blazing Armament.
Makai Knights can infuse those very flames upon their Madōba to increase their power in combat; each knight applies these methods differently relative to their equipment. The armor can be enhanced by infusions of spiritual and magical energies, evidenced by the different forms Garo takes in various situations. When greater power is needed, they can summon their Madōba to increase their damage potential in combat, which is capable of utilizing Blazing Armament in concert with the armored knight.
Development & Training
The Order required self-sufficient warriors that's highly adept in martial arts, strong mental and emotional discipline, and mastery over Soul Metal; creating a full-fledged Makai Knight is a lifetime of training. Because males are physically stronger than females, the order decided to exclude women from ever becoming a knight. However, that never stopped a small group of ambitious daughters of knights attempting to succeed their fathers.
Knighthood
Once a Makai Knight, the order will assign each knight to a specific territory. Each area are only specific to them and other knights are not allowed to cross into neighboring zones and interfere in another knight's business without consent. Each zone also has a Watchdog, it is they who delegate missions and commands from the upper-hierarchy to direct the designated knight with an Orders Document. Should a knight require disciplinary action, a watchdog has the power to detain and potentially kill the knight if necessary. However, there are also roaming knights.
Senatorial Knight
Senatorial Knight are a class of Makai Knights that serve directly under The Senate for special missions in the Original Series. Senatorial Knights are Makai Knights that have been recognized by The Senate for their extraordinary level of service and ability as protectors. As such, only the strongest and most capable will be chosen. The chosen tend to be titled knights as they're often the strongest of amongst them. Once promoted as a knight of the senate, they're given missions directly from the upper-hierarchy of the order.
Free to do as they please, the knights are without district restrictions, giving them free reign over any area they travel through to expedite their mission. Although given greater level of jurisdiction and freedom, senatorial knights also handle the most difficult of missions. Since they have proven their worth in combat, they also face the most challenging opponents that can defeat lesser knights. Known Knights: The Senate
The Senate is the central power that governs the Makai Order in the Original Series and Ryūga-verse. The senate is the most defined within the original universe. Head of the Makai Order, they manage the entirety of their organization. Although it was first organized by the priests, the Watch Dogs now govern the order as a whole. The entity known as Gajari also has an influence to the order, but his role isn't known. There doesn't seem to be a council of any kind, rather similar senior agents managing larger difficulties. The strongest and talented within the order are recruited to help maintain peace and develop new ways to improve their society. The best of their knights are promoted to Senatorial Knights.
Makai Knights
- Rei Suzumura / Zero the Silver Fanged Knight : Is a rival turned anti-heroic ally of the series and the Silver Makai Knight of the West. He was an orphan before he was found by Douji, who took pity on him and raised Rei as his son to inherit his position as a knight of the West and start his own lineage.
- Tsubasa Yamagatana / Dan the Midnight Sun Knight : Is the White Makai Knight of Kantai, introduced in Garo Special: Byakuya no Maju. The Yamagatana family is a family of Makai Priests, but he converted to a Makai Knight after his parents' death.
- Bado the Storm Knight : Is a Makai Knight of the West who battled Barago for several times in the past, believing that there is some good left in Barago's heart.
- Wataru Shijima / Baron the Thunder Knight : Is a Makai Knight serving the Senate, donning a suit of azure armor similar in style to Bado's and wields the Raimeiken, a scimitar-like sword, in his armored form.
- Aguri Kusugami / Gai the Sky Bow Knight : Is latest in his line to inherit the title of Gai the Sky Bow Knight, who secretly worries that he cannot live up to his family's prestige.
- Takeru Jakuzure / Flame Sword Knight : Is a laid-back, self-styled playboy who prefers going after girls over hunting Horrors. As Zen the Flame Sword Knight, Takeru wields a liuyedao and although laid-back, he is nevertheless skilled in combat.
- Crow the Phantom Knight : Iis a Shadowfolk Makai Knight who is serving in the White region and is sent to assist Raiga, as the museum where the slate was unraveled is within his jurisdiction.
- Daigo Akizuki : Is a Makai Knight who is also in charge of training young Makai Knights-to-be and holds the title of a Guide. He is a proud, stoic, cautious person who always properly weighs odds before doing something.
- Kooki / Zanko the Blue Sky Knight : Is a junior disciple of Daigo's, holding the title of Zanko the Blue Sky Knight.
- Akira Godou / Yaiba the Scorching Heat Knight : Is a Makai Knight, holding the title of Yaiba the Scorching Heat Knight.
