Despite their prestige, Makai Priests are ineffective in dealing with Horrors in straight-up fights, with teaming up to perform large scale and difficult sealing being the only method of defeating powerful and notable Horrors, resulting in lots of ancient artifacts containing sealed Horrors in present day. Casualties vary depending on the difficulty of the said sealing and the power of the Horror the Priests have to deal with. For instance, no casualties were documented in the sealing of Eyrith, while Makai Priests died by the dozens to seal Zedom.

This ultimately made them more suited to dealing with weaker Horrors while Makai Knights replaced them as the combat specialist task force against Horrors. As a result, the Makai Priests become more of a Makai Knight's support, playing vastly different roles ranging from armorers or assistants, by creating and maintaining anti-Horror devices, the Madōgu, and various other weapons; to tacticians or advisers, by providing behind-the-scene support, coming up with ideas and tactics, and even directing actions; to partners or supports on the battlefield, by assisting in physical combat and fulfilling any on-site magical needs.
Makai Priests
- Jabi : Is a childhood friend of Kouga who was taught in the Makai ways under Makai Priest Amon. She and Kouga trained together, but went their separate ways during their teenage years.
- Priest Amon : Is a Makai Priest who was known to be one of the greatest Makai Priest to have ever lived. He helped Taiga in creating anti-Horror weapons, spells and devices.
- Leo Fudō / Lord the Flash Knight : Is a young Makai Priest serving the Senate whose youth belittles the extent of his genius. However, Leo is also a Makai Knight holding the title, Lord, the Flash Knight and hides this fact from the Senate.
- Rin Yamagatana : Is a young Makai Priestess from Kantai who is the younger sister of her land's resident Makai Knight Tsubasa. Though she was fearful of the dangers of Kantai.
- Priestess Garai : Is the Makai Priestess of Kantai and the very master that trained Rin Saezima.
- Ouka and Manju : Are Makai Priestesses and the aides of Garai.
- Rin Saezima : Is the wife of Taiga and mother to Kouga. She was trained as a Makai Priestess under Priestess Garai.
- Rekka : Is a Makai Priestess and one of the disciples of Akaza whose father Kengi was murdered by the Horror Karma, allying herself to Garo during the events of Garo: Red Requiem.
- Shiguto : Is one of the disciples of Akaza. After Akaza's death, he owns Akaza's Madō Brush.
- Akaza : Is a Makai Priest who usually runs the antique shop Akadou. He supplies Kouga with the tools to fight Karma.
