Wayne Enterprises

Wayne Enterprises is a company owned by members of the Wayne family, currently owned by Bruce Wayne. The company is based in Gotham City, New Jersey.

Wayne Enterprises was first founded in the 19th century, beginning with real estate and transatlantic shipping, later branching out to railroads and oil. In 1981, company CEO Thomas Wayne and his wife Martha were murdered, leaving the company in shambles, until over a decade later when their son Bruce took it over. Sometime before 2013, Wayne Enterprises acquired Van Criss Laboratories, which became a division of Wayne Enterprises focusing on nanite development and construction.

Government agency ARGUS, under Amanda Waller, would later contract Van Criss Laboratories without the knowledge of Wayne Enterprises for the use of their nano-bombs for Task Force X. In 2013, during a final battle between Kryptonian aliens General Zod and Superman in Metropolis, a Wayne Financial Building was brought down by Zod's violent heat vision, killing dozens of people within.

As the aliens' battle briefly progressed into outer space, one of Wayne Enterprises' satellites was destroyed as well. Historically the company, under the insistence of its CEO Bruce Wayne, has refused any military contracts. However, several have queried this stance given the $97 million spent annually on military R&D by Wayne Enterprises.

Van Criss Laboratories was a division of Wayne Enterprises, focused on construcing nanites. It was founded by Dr. Van Criss, and has its headquarters in Gotham City. Some time after 2015, Amanda Waller and ARGUS would purchase the bombs to use on Task Force X, to hold them at bay in the event they go rogue and turn against her.

Attacked by the Joker

After learning of Belle Reve and Task Force X, The Joker and his men head for the Laboratories. They quickly took down the building's security, before cornering Dr. Van Criss in a safe room. The Joker threatened to kill his wife, who was being held hostage, if he didn't open the door. After Dr. Van Criss surrendered, The Joker forced him into helping him disarm the nanite inside Harley Quinn's neck.
